Height: 30cm, ø 8 cm, Wood: Maple

The Royals are designed by Altherr/Weiss to reign as table sculptures and serve as sceptre-pepper and salt grinders.
The Royals are hand turned on a wood lathe by Hans Mösli in Gais, Appenzell. The brass crowns are individually made to measure on a metal lathe by jeweler Leszek Weiss in Wólka Krasienińska, Poland. The grinding mechanisms (universal for both salt and pepper) are made by Strässler Präzisionsmechanik in Rafz, Zurich. The packaging is printed by the last heirs of Gutenberg from Typorama in Bischofszell, Thurgau.

The Royals come in two sizes: The Queen and The Princess - crystal shaped salt grinders. The King and The Prince - monolith pepper grinders.

Please note, each piece is unique. Wood being a natural material will vary slightly in grain and colour, which adds its own character.

How to refill:

Open the brass lid (counterclockwise). Should it
be closed too tightly prior and difficult to open, it helps to use a rubber glove and use the flat palm of your hand to turn it open. Take off the top wooden part and fill in the pepper or
salt. You can guide the corns
to fall in by forming a funnel with your hand when holding
it. When filling in, make sure
the rod stays in the middle. Fill up allowing 1cm empty space
to fit the wooden counterpart back in. When closing the lid, we recommend not to tighten it too much, there is no need for that and it makes it easier to open next time.

To adjust the grind:

For a very fine grind, turn the screw at the bottom clockwise till it stops.
For a rough grind, loosen the screw counterclockwise until it stops.

Product care:

The lid is out of brass and with time it naturally gets a patina. Some people like this, but if you want to keep the crown shiny, you can use salt and vinegar from the kitchen. For more stuborn stains the “Zauberwatte” from the pharmacy, or Brasso approved by her majesty will do the job. Every now and then you can conserve the wood with linseed oil from your kitchen.
